FROM A FAMILY OF WARRIORS - MAJ GEN ANANT SINGH PATHANIA, MVC The clan of Pathanias were originally Tomars from Rajasthan and for a while they ruled Delhi. They moved up north after being defeated by the Moguls and their name is an abbreviation of Prathishthana, the ancient name of Pathankot, which was the capital of the hill state of Nurpur. They have a proud record of service in the armies of Maharajah Ranjit Singh, the State Forces of Jammu & Kashmir, the British India Army and the Indian Army. The clan boasts of one Vir Chakara and two Maha Vir Chakaras (the second highest gallantryaward in India), and one of the recipients was Anant Singh Pathania who was twice decorated for bravery and retired as a major general. 6 KUMAON   at Tri Junction fought and fought and fought till there was an eerie silence- Brig N C Rawlley, Commander of the Walong Brigade   Today 14 November 2024 marks 62 years since the fierce battle at Tri Junction in 1962.    At a height of 12,000 ft, the Indian braves of 6 KUMAON fought against overwhelming Chinese forces. Though outnumbered and outgunned, the Bhullas fought till their last.  Only 90 of the 200 Braves who had gone into the attack returned.    On WalonghDay, we remember the Braves of 6 KUMAON. Havildar Sangram Singh Rawat of NAGA REGIMENT was commanding a medium machine gun detachment during the 1971 Indo-Pak War in the Eastern Sector. The enemy launched an attack on his post in strength but Havildar Rawat employed his weapon with great skill bringing down devastating fire inflicting heavy casualties. The enemy launched another attack but he again brought down accurate fire killing a number of enemy soldiers. The enemy closed on to the position damaging the gun and he was injured. With utter disregard for his safety, he ordered his detachment to move but he himself stayed behind to cover their move to another position. The enemy charged his post but he kept them at bay by lobbing hand grenades. He displayed gallantry, determination, and leadership of a high order.
