The supreme sacrifice of Major Gopi Singh, Shaurya Chakra (P), GARHWAL RIFLES/ 14 RASHTRIYA RIFLES, fighting terrorists in Bandipora, J&K OnThisDay 10 November in 2005 The IndianBrave was four days short of his 35th Birthday

Shaurya Chakra (P)14 RR/16 GARHWALon the anniversary of that fateful day he sacrificed his life while eliminating the terrorists hiding in a building of Bandipora, J&K on 10th Nov, 2005.

He served as ADC to the president of India, KR Narayanan for close to five years and continued in his post as the ADC to the next president Dr A.P.J Abdul Kalam. Ironically, he made the supreme sacrifice on the very next day of the demise of his former boss KR Narayanan.

He was also first crush of Actress Anushka Sharma as the unit in which Maj Gopi was serving was also Anushka's Dad unit (16 GARHWAL)

मेजर गोपी सिंह राठौर, जिनका जन्म 14 नवंबर, 1970 को देहरादून, उत्तराखंड में हुआ था, भारतीय सेना के एक प्रतिष्ठित अधिकारी थे। दिसंबर 1992 में 16 गढ़वाल राइफल्स में कमीशन प्राप्त किया

मेजर गोपी सिंह, शौर्य चक्र (पी), गढ़वाल राइफल्स/14 राष्ट्रीय राइफल्स, ने बांदीपुरा, जम्मू-कश्मीर में आतंकवादियों से लड़ते हुए 10 नवंबर 2005 को सर्वोच्च बलिदान दिया। भारतीय बहादुर अपने 35वें जन्मदिन से चार दिन दूर थे

शौर्य चक्र (पी) 14 आरआर/16 गढ़वाल उस भाग्यशाली दिन की सालगिरह पर उन्होंने 10 नवंबर, 2005 को बांदीपुरा, जम्मू-कश्मीर की एक इमारत में छिपे आतंकवादियों को मार गिराते हुए अपने प्राणों की आहुति दे दी।

उन्होंने भारत के राष्ट्रपति केआर नारायणन के एडीसी के रूप में करीब पांच साल तक काम किया और अगले राष्ट्रपति डॉ. ए.पी.जे अब्दुल कलाम के एडीसी के रूप में अपने पद पर बने रहे। विडंबना यह है कि उन्होंने अपने पूर्व बॉस केआर नारायणन के निधन के अगले ही दिन सर्वोच्च बलिदान दिया।

 वह अभिनेत्री अनुष्का शर्मा के भी पहले क्रश थे क्योंकि जिस यूनिट में मेजर गोपी सेवारत थे वह अनुष्का के पिता की यूनिट (16 गढ़वाल) भी थी।
