Rifleman Netrabhan Singh hailed from Gadrata village in Khetri tehsil of Jhunjhunun district in Rajasthan. Son of an Army veteran Hari Kishan Singh and Smt Chand Kanwar, he wanted to serve in the Armed Forces since his childhood like his father (A veteran of WW II, who served with Sawai Man Singh Guards) and grandfather Shri Bhoor Singh (A veteran of WW I, who served with Sawai Man Singh Guards) who too served in the Army Rfn Netrabhan Singh a third-generation soldier
Rfn Singh along with his platoon was tasked to cordon and search in a village in Pulwama, Jammu & Kashmir.
Some anti-national elements indiscriminately opened fire on his section injuring him and his Section Commander.
Even though injured, and unmindful of his personal safety, Rfn Singh, charged on them killing a hardcore terrorist, from whom one AK-56 rifle, three AK magazines, and some ammunition were later recovered.
However, in the ensuing exchange of fire, Rfn Singh was shot, and he fell on the spot.
For his indomitable spirit, exemplary gallantry, and supreme sacrifice, Rifleman Netra bhan Singh, was awarded the Shaurya Chakra posthumously.
