Remembering The Last Maharaja of Jaipur, Brig. Maharaja Sawai Bhawani Singh Bahadur Mahavir Chakra 10 PARA CDO (later SF)

Mahavir Chakra Brigadier Bhawani Singh . Born on 22 October 1931,

There is no other example like Brigadier Bhawani Singh in the world!

Despite having assets worth billions of rupees, he joined the army to protect the motherland! And took only 1 rupee per month as salary throughout his life.

● Brigadier Maharaja Sawai Bhawani Singh was the Maharaja of #Kushwaha (Kachchwaha) of Jaipur who displayed his bravery in the Indo-Pak war in 1971 and the Bangladesh war and was honoured with the Mahavir Chakra in 1972 as a mark of respect!

● When the former king of Jaipur Sawai Bhawani Singh returned to Jaipur for a holiday after breaking the spirits of the enemy hundreds of kilometres inside the Pakistani border and capturing many cities, the entire city stood up to thank him! After reaching there, his first work was to pray at the temple of Shiladevi and receive her blessings. As is the tradition of Kushwaha Kshatriyas.

● He was then on the post of Lieutenant Colonel. In the year 1971, India surprised the world by providing unprecedented military help in liberating East Pakistan (today's Bangladesh). On the western border, Pakistan attacked many states of Punjab and Rajasthan, which were given a befitting reply and destroyed. Indian Army kept on entering the enemy areas.

Very few people would know that for five months, paratroopers were being made to jump from airplanes in desert areas and were being trained in such a way that they could capture Pakistani areas in the dark! Bhawani Singh was then the top officer of the 10th Para Regiment of the Indian Army and was leading this training!

● Under the leadership of Army Chief S.H.F.J. Mankasha, he led the paratroopers in the (Desert Operation) and captured a town called Chhachro in the Pakistani border at midnight. As soon as two different units named "Alpha" and "Charlie" jumped on the ground, the army's "Jonga" jeeps were found standing there, which were to be filled with ammunition and food items! In five days, all of them hoisted the tricolour flag on the towns named Veeravah, Slamkot, Nagarpark and finally Luniyo after Chhachro. These areas were in the south-west of Barmer and at a distance of about 60-90 kilometres. In this action, 36 Pakistani soldiers were killed and 22 were made prisoners of war.

● To give heroic respect, the whole country was waiting with open arms for the soldiers returning from the war in those days. In Jaipur, Lieutenant Colonel Bhawani Singh got respect from both sides, firstly he was the Maharaja of this place! Secondly, he was a military officer who led the paratroopers and conquered many cities of Pakistan.

● After independence, Sawai Bhawani Singh was the only king who started his service in the Indian Army as a Second Lieutenant and voluntarily retired from the post of Battalion Commander. For his valour, courage and leadership excellence in this battle

this paratrooper officer was also given the rank of Brigadier by the government. He died on 17 April 2011.
