Captain Jasram Singh displayed conspicuous gallantry & outstanding leadership in face of the enemy. Awarded Ashoka chakra.
He is among those select people who come first in front of the President in the Republic Day parade, in which the Ashok Chakra and Param Vir Chakra winners of the country lead the parade. Today only four person are alive who lead this parade, among them the first Captain Yogendra Singh Yadav Rifleman, now Subedar Sanjay Kumar Dogra and the one who won the Bana Top and Captain Bana Singh, after this Ashok Chakra winner Jasram Singh.
On 30th Oct 1968, Captain Jasram Singh of 16 RAJPUT displayed most conspicuous bravery and leadership in Mizoram during Naga insurgency. For his bravery he received highest peacetime gallantry award - Ashoka Chakra.
Later he retired as Hon Lt Col in 1990.
On this day, India got its hero - on this day in 1968, Captain Jasram Singh fought bravely with Naga militants and wrote such a saga of bravery that he was awarded the 'Ashok Chakra' for his bravery which is equal to the Param Vir Chakra. He later retired from the Indian Army as a Lieutenant Colonel and is currently living a happy life.He is currently 89 years old.
