 On this day in 1962 Major Shaitan Singh the Quartermaster of 13 KUMAON had reached Rezang La to take over Charlie Company. Read a brief and know how he got to Rezang La and became OC of Charlie Company. 13 KUMAON was located in Baramulla, Kashmir after spending a tenure in Ambala. The unit surprisingly received orders to move to Leh in September. Advance party & gradually main body left for Leh via road leaving Quartermaster Major Shaitan Singh in charge of rear party. Major Shaitan Singh was due for his annual leave, but due to this sudden move his leave was getting delayed. 13 KUMAON reached Leh and were told that they'll move to Chushul in March to replace 1/8 Gorkha Rifles who were located there since 1961. Charlie Company located in Leh was under the command of Captain Balbir Singh Lamba who moved for a course on 2 October. He is among those select people who come first in front of the President in the Republic Day parade, in which the Ashok Chakra and Param Vir Chakra winners of the country lead the parade. Today only four person are alive who lead this parade, among them the first Captain Yogendra Singh Yadav Rifleman, now Subedar Sanjay Kumar Dogra  and the one who won the Bana Top and Captain Bana Singh, after this Ashok Chakra winner Jasram Singh. On 30th Oct 1968, Captain Jasram Singh of 16 RAJPUT displayed most conspicuous bravery and leadership in Mizoram during Naga insurgency. For his bravery he received highest peacetime gallantry award - Ashoka Chakra. The gallant #IndianBraves eliminated a large number of terrorists at Chokibal, Kupwara, J&K, before being surrounded, captured, and tortured. In October 1994 Capt Chauhan’s unit was deployed around Chokibal area, of Kupwara, J&K. The unit received information about the presence of a large gathering of terrorists at Lachimpora village of Wariban forest. Capt Chauhan was tasked to plan a strike on the hideout. As per the plan, on the night of 28-29 October, he moved with his team, in disguise to neutralise the militants, while a reserve group of soldiers was on standby to act if the need arose. Upon reaching the general area, they managed to infiltrate the group of militants, but their identity couldn't be concealed for long.
